Several inmates lost their lives in a fire that took place in a rehabilitation center in the Ahuacatitlan neighborhood, Tlalpan, Mexico City. According to the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), the incident occurred on Monday, February 24, in an annex located on Vista Hermosa Street. The SSC received a report of a fire and upon arriving at the scene, found several unconscious people, some of whom were dead.
According to initial reports, paramedics attended to at least 11 people, of which five were diagnosed with vital signs, presumably due to smoke inhalation. The arrival of forensic services is awaited to begin the relevant investigations. The person in charge of the rehabilitation center and four others will be presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office to give their statements.
On the other hand, the Heroic Fire Department of Mexico City reported that clothing, furniture, and other objects were burned in the "Hombres Preparados" rehabilitation center. The firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire and carry out removal and cooling tasks at the scene of the incident.
